Betty Charlene (Char) Luckey, 80, of Kokomo passed away Tuesday October 11th 2016 at her daughter's house surrounded by family. She was born at home September 5, 1936 in North Vernon, IN. She was the daughter of Arthur Andrew Morris, Sr. and Martha Geraldine (Smith) Morris. She married Lester Ray Luckey on December 19, 1957 who preceded her death.
She is survived by her three children, Fara Ogle and husband Mark of Kokomo, Joseph (Joe) Luckey and wife Norma of Lebanon, and son Anthony (Tony) Dwayne Luckey of Kokomo. Her most favorite joy was her surviving grandchildren Dustin, Nathan, and Briana Ogle; Josh and Ryan Luckey; Anthony Dwayne Jr. (T.J.) and Miranda Luckey. She has 8 surviving great grandchildren.
As a child she lived a very basic and close knit rural life sharing space with her 9 brothers and sisters. All of them relied mostly on each other for happiness and they all had to experience hard work to maintain a house with very little modern conveniences. From a start such as this, Char became a person who deeply appreciated family and through the years stayed very close.
She has left behind three sisters, Ruth Gootee of Indianapolis, Faith Thompson of Arizona, Mary Rose Flowers of Georgia; and one brother Steve Morris of Kokomo, Indiana. In addition to her parents and husband, Char was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Kelser, Linda Hawk, and Patricia Coker; two brothers, Norman Morris and Andy Morris, Jr.
Char was often known as a maverick with a true passion for the adventure of life, and the love and relaxation of comfort. She was a hard working strong woman who made daily sacrifices for others. However, she also had an exceptional ability to receive love and sacrifices from others as well. Every single person from every generation who knew her, feels an incredibly genuine closeness to her. On the surface she was delicate and sweet, but the depth of her was always fearless. She was never afraid to tell her family and friends what they needed to hear, especially expressions of love.
Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday October 15, 2016 at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo. Pastor Jeff Sexton will officiate. Burial will follow at Sharpsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
